The ominous Blue Screen Error Message that tells me I have an "Unmountable Boot Volume" that does not allow me to even boot up my computer! I thought it was the end for me, and new harddrive purchase in my near future, but while I was at work today, I found a harddrive life-saver on the internet that I now must share with you, as it did literally save me and all of my online business and personal files! I have a Dell computer and my first instinct was to go to the user's manual in the troubleshooting section. I didn't really find the answer I was looking for there, but Dell does provide a procedure for doing a little diagnostic test to find out what the problem is in your harddrive. After running the Dell diagnostics test, it revealed that I had some files that were "uncorrectable data error[s]". Uh-oh. Panic set in at that point thinking I had lost everything. Note to self: Listen to people who tell you to do regular system and file backups! Thinking I was doomed, I made a note of the error message I was getting on my blue screen of death: "Unmountable Boot Volume". I Googled this and found that many other people have also suffered the same dreaded fate. The good news is, there are always others out there willing to share their secret formula cures to common and not-so-common error messages that you may encounter. Just do a Google search from a remote computer (eg. at the library) if you are stuck and in a panic over your home PC! The answers are out there and they are free! You do not always need a computer service technician and you don't always have to pay money to get it fixed! I'm going to share the same site that I found this valuable system FIX on, with these added words of wisdom: Some procedures given to you on the net will give a very specific method of solving your problem. My advice is not to panic if you follow the steps religiously and then realize it doesn't look exactly the way the steps are outlined. The procedure is there for you, and you need to pay the most attention to the WORDS and the GIST of the procedure if it is not an exact match with what you attempt to do. For example, there were a few extra steps I was supposed to follow to get to the command prompt, but the extra steps weren't there once I tried it. So I panic thinking "Great, the instructions are wrong for my computer and I'll never get it fixed!" However, then I read the words carefully about where I needed to be, and even though my screen was slightly different, I clicked where I was supposed to be as opposed to following the steps that were not an exact match with my system. The key is not to panic. Read the words. Follow your screen. You will get there! The great part is that this is a FREE method of solving your computer technical support issues on your own without paying anyone to help you fix it. So here is the great site I found that cured me, my business files, my personal files, and rebooted my system when I got the blue screen of death saying I had an Unmountable Boot Volume.
