Making Money From Home : Business or Hobby?

There are many different reasons that you might want to start making money from home - and one of the biggest reasons that lot of people turn to this route is that they want to be doing something that they love.

Most people who start making money from home do it with something in mind that they really are passionate about, or something that they love to do. The general idea is that if you are going to be working from home, you may as well be doing something that you really love to do, and you may as well actually be able to enjoy yourself while you are doing it.

There are many reasons that this is great - you are doing something that you love, so there really isn't any stress or pressure because you are making money off of what you love. However, when it comes right down to this, you have to be sure that you are taking care of some of the major business in your life - without turning it into only a hobby.

You have to treat your business as a business, no matter how much you love whatever you are doing, and you have to decide that you are going to be smart about making money from home, and that means running it like a business, not a hobby.

The best way that you can make sure your business is run like a business, and not a hobby, is to set rules for yourself to make sure that you are actually getting the most out of your business. You want to have a set time during the day, and set days of the week, that you are working, and you have to stick to this schedule to make sure that you have enough time to get your work done.

You simply don't want to put it on the backburner and work on it whenever you get around to it, because if you do it that way, you will see that you are actually going to be having problems with making money from home, and it isn't really as important to you as it should be. So, setting up a work schedules is one way to make sure that it is a business, not a hobby.

Another thing that you can be sure to do to make money from home in a business-like fashion is to always be as professional as possible. Make sure that you are treating your business like a business.

This means that when you go to work, dress like you are going to work. When you talk about your home business, talk about it in a way that tells others you are serious about it and that it means a lot to you. This is very important, and this is part of the reason that you want to make your business a business, not just a hobby.

You can make money from home when you treat your business like a hobby, but usually if you treat your business like a hobby, you will also get paid like it's only a hobby!

Starting an Online Business Starts With a Plan

It's important to have an annual business when starting an online business so that you can see what your needs are for the coming year and to show yourself and the bank how far you have progressed since your original business plan was written.

Starting an online business with a business plan shows your intentions to operate and to provide information to financial institutions in support of start up capital and funding for other operations.

In most cases, the banks want to see three to five year projections showing your intention for the funding. Depending on the scope of the online business you are starting, they may only finance the first year, and will want additional proof that the business is progressing along the terms of the original business plan before they will advance any more funds.

Since you are not able to really show much in the way of financial records when starting an online business, having a business plan also shows potential creditors what you anticipate for the future of your business. They can then compare this to your original plan to verify if you are moving along as planned.

They do not want to be stuck with an loan you can't pay by advancing funds to a business that has no potential of becoming successful. Even if you are a little behind your original projections, they are able to see if the potential is there for improvement, and may even make suggestions for helping you reach your original goals.

On the other hand, if your progress is way behind original projections, that can be a sign that the online business you started is failing, so it's likely that you will not receive any more funding until you can prove the business is on its way to profitability.

It's normal when starting any online business for it to take three to five years to turn a profit, but if you aren't showing improvement, that is an area for concern. As you enter into your second year, you should be showing less of a loss and more of a profit even if you don't yet show a net gain in income.

Even if you aren't looking for additional funding when starting your online business, you should look at this as a warning sign, and start making some changes so that you can build your business the way you originally intended and make some money with it.

It may mean your prices are too low, or your expenses are excessive for the amount of business you have and need to be cut. For instance, if you are selling products from a website, investigate what others are charging for the same type of items to see if you are in line with the industry standard in pricing.

If you sell services, find out what others are charging for the same service - maybe your prices are too high, and thus people are going elsewhere for the same service. In reality, these should have been checked first, but some people in their haste to start an online business forget the most important step of price comparison.

If you have your business plan nearby at all stages of building your online business from start to ever after, and change the plan according to your needs, then starting an online business, maintaining it, and being successful at it are going to be a lot easier for you.

Making Money From Home With Blog Trackback Links

If you're like most online business owners, you are probably interested in making money from home with your website's blog. After all, blogging is free and one of the best ways to build traffic and sales without much monetary investment.

Unfortunately, if you're like most people trying to make money from home with your blog, you are also probably suffering from a shortage of visitors to your blog.

Do you create incredible content and post regularly to your blog, but are still not seeing the kind of traffic you want or making money from home with your blog the way you want to? If so, you should really be looking at what you are doing with your blog, and rework some things to drive more traffic to your site.

The first key to building traffic to your blog is adding quality content to it frequently. This means once per week at the very minimum, but you can blog safely up to three times per day if you really want to. Blogging and pinging may create traffic if you have the content, but it may not be enough.

If you want to make money from home with your blog, it's important to consider other ways of making the sales you want. One way that you can increase the links back to your site is by reading other people's blogs that are related in content to your blog, and commenting on them with your link at the end of your post.

It may seem time-consuming and worthless to you, but good bloggers get involved with a community of bloggers who talk about the same things and trade links with this method, thereby trading traffic between blogs at the same time. If you have good content but suffer from no blog traffic, then you will want to consider this avenue of increasing link-backs to your blog.

Not only that, but you will see more traffic just from other bloggers reading your comments and clicking on your links, as well as search engine traffic when they spider your links in the comments you've posted. The key thing to remember is that this is targeted traffic - people who are interested already in your website's niche.

Trackback links are another way to increase blog traffic and make money from home with your blog. You can take advantage of this method because not many people know what it is, how it works, or how their blogs can benefit from it.

Basically, a trackback will let another person's website know when you make a blog post that refers to that other person's blog post. It's like citing references within your blog post for your readers to click on when they want more information on the same topic by another author.

When you do this, a short blurb from your blog post will appear on that person's site, giving you a link back and more traffic to your site. You just have to check that the other blogger has a trackback link. Most WordPress blogs should have this feature, but probably not a lot of Blogger blogs will.

Trackback has a feature that is like having comments enabled or disabled on your blog and moderating them to decide if you want to keep them or discard them.

The difference between commenting on other's blogs and having a trackback link, and what makes a trackback link more useful is that you get way more targeted links pointing back to your site than via a regular link or comment exchange. The search engines will like these kinds of links better than a regular link too.

You can increase your blog traffic and start making money from home with your blog if you create solid content, use blog commenting wisely, join a community of bloggers, and implement the trackback feature on your blog to cite other blogs and create link-backs to your own.

A Day Off My Plug-in Profit Site and a Day On My Duathlon Race

When you are running a Plug-in Profit Site or other web business, the tendency that you are going to have to fight the most is the one that tells you to work all of the time. It is a funny paradox, because a lot of the time, a person goes into their own business so that they don't have to work so much, and so that they can set their own hours.

This happens very often, but when a person decides to have a Plug-in Profit Site or other web business, what happens next is that they come up with something that they love, and something that they are very passionate about.

This, coupled with the fact that the business is now located in their home makes lots of people feel like they should work all of the time. There is a real tendency that you have to fight to work for 24 hours a day and to never take a day off.

First of all, be proud of yourself for wanting to work so hard. If you have found something that you love to do, and you are enjoying your Plug-in Profit Site or other web business, that is a great thing for you and for your future.

You should feel good about the fact that your job means a lot to you, and you should feel like you have accomplished something by allowing yourself to be happy in your business.

However, you have to remember that no matter how much you like your Plug-in Profit Site or other web business, and no matter how happy you are with what you are doing for a living, you simply have to take a day off now and then (to compete in a Duathlon race like me yesterday!?), and you have to give yourself vacations.

You might not think that they are necessary if you love your job, but if you don't give yourself the proper amount of time off, you are going to find that you get burned out much more easily than you would normally do. No matter how much you enjoy what you do, if you don't take a break now and then, you won't be able to do it for very long.

That's why I think maintaining your health and fitness is very important. I train for a Duathlon race every year (run 5.5km, bike 30km, then run 5.5km again). Competing in a race is something I enjoy mainly because it gives me goals to set for myself that I can train to achieve.

I admit the race was a tough one, and I even had to walk for parts of the 2nd 5.5km run. However, even so, my goal was to beat last year's race time, and I did that yesterday by finishing 9 minutes quicker than last year, even though I had to walk part of the way to the finish line!

So that's where I was yesterday, and a much deserved and necessary break from my Plug-in Profit Site business! Yay me! It's good to set goals for yourself in life and business, but we must not forget the rest of our lives outside of our businesses.

The biggest thing that you have to deal with when you are taking days off from your Plug-in Profit Site or other web business is the guilt that goes along with knowing that every moment you are not in your home office, you are missing out on chances to make money and to make your business better.

However, you have to remind yourself that part of the reason you are taking control of what you do is that you want to be able to have a flexible schedule. You have to work really hard at letting yourself take time off, and at being okay with that.

If you do this, you will find that you and your Plug-in Profit Site or other web business run a lot smoother. Now back to business and training for me...well, the training can wait another week maybe... :)
