How Not to Boost Google PageRank

Google PageRank has come to be synonymous with prestige and popularity of a website. It denotes, in the eyes of Google, how important a webpage is in terms of outside links that connect to it. In other words, if relevance of content contained in a webpage is one side of coin, the other side represents the value of the webpage seen from the angle of 'quality' and quantity of backlinks generated by the webpage. Together, the webpage signals its worth that is reflected in its Google PageRank.

Note that there is an emphasis on quality of backlinks. Simply said, the more weightier a backlink is, more the chance is of attaining higher PageRank. Since Google PageRank progresses exponentially, remember therefore that a higher rank by just one point is worth many times more than the previous rank.

Predictably, there is a constant rush to improve Google PageRank, and in doing so, webmasters overstep the limit beyond which no effort brings in commensurate results. That is not only waste of efforts, but it may also draw ire from search engines, conscious as they are to provide relevant search results. In this article, we'll discuss what we may not attempt to fetch higher Google PageRank. Because, over long term, they don't help. We'll also briefly look at ways to popularize website.

Reciprocal linking is passe.

There is enough indication in the blogsite of Google's Matt Cutts that reciprocal linking no longer works. The underlying logic is that 'mutual admiration' is not the way to show relevancy of webpage at either end. But there can be exceptions. What if your articles are published in a renowned web publication (say GoArticles.com) and you have a link on your webpage that leads your viewers to relevant section in GoArticles.com where your articles are listed? It would seem that search engines take due cognition of the fact that in latter case the purpose is not to deliberately concoct reciprocal linking.

Buying links?

This is a tricky situation. Why? Let's say you put an ad in another website for which you pay. This is perfectly legit, for you have every right to drive traffic from other websites. Isn't Google's AdSense a good example of buying links? The scene becomes murky when the links you buy have sole intention of inflating your Google PageRank. Here is where the axe falls. After all, unobtrusive paid links tucked away in some corner of a webpage do not contribute to relevancy of content.

What about blogs and forums?

Yes indeed, blogs and forums are powerful link providers. But there is a caveat. Which is that you need to positively contribute at these places in order to get noticed. No shortcut, no frill, no forced attempt. The idea is you need to establish your repute which happens brick-by-brick. There are many popular forums and blogs that actively seek discerning participants. If writing is not your forte, think of hiring a contributor on your behalf. The bottomline is that if you misuse your participation to only boost your Google PageRank, you'll be noticed soon and removed without much of an explanation.

The way out

Research and locate keyword phrases relevant to your website. If you discover niche keywords that look promising yet under-explored, you're a step ahead in the race.

Write good amount of content spread over large number of webpages. Each webpage must be informative, well-written and focused on a primary keyword phrase and one or 2 secondary keyword phrases.

Submit your website to niche search engines and human-moderated directories.

Write good and resourceful articles and include them in renowned web publications like EzineArticles, GoArticles and SearchWarp to name a few. Your author-byline will contain backlink to your website.

Prove your worth by regularly contributing in relevant forums and blogs.

Enjoy your work, write and write, and savor other worldly favors.

It is easy to get overawed by single-track determination to attain high Google PageRank. Don't be. If it is web traffic you are after in double-quick time, think of opting for AdWords and the like. In final analysis, there is just no proven shortcut on your way to top Google PageRank except slogging it out. It's worth keeping that in mind. Good luck!

Can I Really Be a Network Marketer?

When I first got into business online, I didn't really know what it meant to be a network marketer or be involved in multi-level marketing (MLM). I wanted to sell a product and a service that would eventually generate a good residual income for me. It is becoming clearer to me now as I get into network marketing that it does take a certain kind of person with certain skills to excel in this business, but if you've got the desire, passion, energy, and commitment to be successful at it, then anyone can do it!

Network marketing, or multi-level marketing is about people. It's about building and team - a downline - and teaching them to be successful like you. Yes, there are different levels in the organization you build, but that's not to say that all network marketing endeavors are pyramid schemes. As long as there is something of value being offered in the program and it's not a program designed to pay only those higher up in the pyramid, then you are pretty safe.

Once you are into a network marketing program, you have to work on yourself and your own success before you can hope to achieve success with others you recruit. The problem is that many people are attracted to the big money aspect of it, and hope to make it big with little effort on their own part. Once you're in, you have to make a commitment to yourself and your program, no matter what big hitters are above you, and you have to work it like any other business. This will take time, and you have to be willing to invest that time, and believe that in time you will see the results you seek.

Believing is huge in this industry because you start with a dream. There is a reason you got involved in network marketing, and one of the big reasons might be that you want to be a millionaire. The trick is to believe and feel that you already are, even if you're far from it. This kind of positive attitude must be maintained, even though everyone will go through good times and bad in their businesses. If you love what you do, you will be able to maintain a healthy attitude and the discipline needed to propel you to greatness.

Most people think that network marketing is about making sales when really it is about relationships with your prospects, your customers, and your team. The best way to be confident about relationship building and team-building is to educate yourself and develop the skills you need to succeed. A lot of it has to do with conquering your fears about talking to new prospects by analyzing what the fear really is and developing the skills you need through practice and repetition. Part of relationship building is also to be a leader to your team and knowing how to handle objections to your offers, or excuses for not joining. Being prepared with a list of questions for your prospects will help you deal effectively with their issues.

Network marketing can be a business for those who are willing to work at it. Money won't grow on trees, so if you want to be successful at it, then take the time to learn, grow, energize yourself, love yourself and what you do, and carry yourself and your team to the top!

The 5Ws of Prospecting

Prospecting is an art. While you may be a natural at getting prospects for your business, it usually takes some time and practice to finally be able to find them for your business, and do the right thing once you've got them. To be really good at it will take some planning and preparation on your part, but once you've done it often enough, it will become second nature. You first have to understand the 5Ws, or the Who/What/When/Where/Why/How of prospecting before you can lead your prospects to success.

What is prospecting? Prospecting is the art of going out and finding new customers for your business, and a new team for your downline. This can mean signing up people you know, or signing up complete strangers to your program, and then teaching them to do what you have done to advertise and expose your business.

Who are your prospects? Your prospects are people from all walks of life. They can be the warm market, or your circle of influence, meaning your friends, family, relatives, co-workers, and everyone you know that you already have a relationship with. Prospects can also be referrals, or personal recommendations from someone else. For example, maybe your friend knows someone else who may be interested in your business. They can come from your advertising efforts in newspapers, ezines, on your website, from your flyers, business cards, or internet banners. They can come from the cold market by approaching complete strangers in places you go every day or on the internet, and they can be bought prospects from lead generation companies.

Where do you find prospects? As mentioned above, prospects can be found right in front of you within your circle of influence - the people you already know. You can ask for prospects from both the people you already know, and also from the prospects who end up declining your offer. The people who turn down your business can be a good source of referrals. If they say, "No", then you simply say something like, "Thank you for considering this business. Do you know of anyone else who might jump on the opportunity?" Remember that if you never ask, you will never receive! Prospects can be found everywhere you go in a day, such as the gym, the coffee shop, the hairdresser, the mall, the grocery store, or the bank. You can get them online when they sign up on your lead capture page, or as previously mentioned you can buy quality leads.

When is the right time to gather prospects? Anytime! Okay, maybe not at 3am! Why? To build your customer base and your downline team and grow a business by teaching others to do what you have done so that they can also teach others to do what they have done.

How do you get prospects? This is probably the most important question of them all. As I said, prospecting is an art that takes practice, so it helps to start by setting goals that are measurable, realistic, and achievable. Know what you want and when you want it and do something every day to work towards getting it. Practicing means knowing what you are going to say to your prospects before it happens by using a script, and then eventually becoming comfortable and confident enough that you don't need the script anymore.

Once you've set your goals, you can give yourself an added edge by learning as much as you can about your business, your products and services, the compensation plan, and everything you possibly can. When your prospects have questions, you want to be able to answer them with confidence and ease. You want to listen to your prospects and what their needs are, and if you don't have the answers to everything, you want to know who your upline support team is and how to get ahold of them. This is part of what it takes to be a good leader. A leader has excellent listening skills. They mentor, train, support, encourage, and lead by example via conference calls, recorded calls, websites, on-one-one presentations, or audio and video presentations.

Finally, it's good to distinguish between a good prospect and a bad prospect. Good prospects are confident go-getters who can make a commitment to your business and to learning all they can so that they, too, can teach those below them. A bad prospect is one who is indecisive or just checking things out without being serious about the business. It is up to us to walk away from prospects who aren't really into the program. We don't want to beg or plead them to join with us - we want to grab those who are enthusiastic, ready, and willing to be on a winning team.

Getting quality traffic to any website is almost certainly an Internet based home business owner's dream (or nightmare for lack of). With good targeted traffic, you can pretty much do what you want with them - test and track your conversion, your clickthroughs, list building, to name a few.

But you need content in order to satisfy both your website visitors AND the search engines. How does content actually bring you website traffic?

There are numerous traffic sources, such as search engine traffic, but it is unwise to rely solely on search engines for your traffic, or for that matter, from any one source. By diversifying your tactics you are creating a well-rounded game plan to drive traffic to your site.

Here is the list of 12 surefire ways to get traffic to your Internet based home business website using contents.

1. Use Keyword-Rich Articles

By researching the popular keywords for your topic or product, you can create information that places these words into the context of an article for your website. Websites NEED pages. The more, the better.

Websites with pages of real content will become a feeding ground for the search engines.

2. Newsletters

With close to 80% of sales taking place after the first contact it is imperative that every website have a newsletter when possible. The percentage of sales goes up with each contact - the highest percentage being made after 5 to 7 contacts.

But to have a newsletter you must have content! So start putting some ideas together and write those newsletters. Wait for the follow up of traffic as they open their email and come back to your site.

3. Free Reports

Free reports are a great way to attract subscribers to your newsletter. Better yet, create viral reports. These reports can also be given away by other people (on related websites) with a link to YOUR website inside. You provide them something to give to their customers for free and you get the traffic that follows!

4. Submission to Article Directories

By writing short articles on the topic related to your website, you can offer these articles for other website owners or newsletter publishers to use by submitting them to an article directory.

5. Submission to Relevant Websites

Another beneficial use for articles is to offer them directly to sites you would like to share an audience with. This is not only a great way to gain credibility for your topic, but will provide useful hyperlinks all over the internet.

6. Forums

Search for a forum that discusses something related to your website. In most cases you can either post a link to your website in your signature or share information that arouses questions about your website from other posters. Some forums permit you to post your articles.

7. Linking Pages

Rather than having a bland list of 'linking partners' you could be using your links to gain more credibility AND provide more content for the search engines.

Create a separate page for each link category and write 200-400 words of content on that subject. Offering your recommended links at the end will make you a source for information rather than just a catalogue of links.

8. Press Release

Press releases should become an important part of your marketing. What do you need to create a press release? Content. By creating a press release to announce your Internet home business, a new product, results of a poll or related news event, you can get free advertising in the media.

9. Article Announcement Lists

Article announcement lists are similar to article directories in that your article will be placed before an audience of webmasters and publishers who may choose to use your article on their website or in their newsletter.

10. Affiliate Programs
