Many people feel intimidated when they hear the terms "network marketing" and "mutli-level marketing" (MLM). Heck, even the term "internet marketing" can be a little overwhelming for those just getting started in the industry. In fact, I spent several years shying away from the internet marketing world just because I knew how many other successful internet business owners there were out there, and how much learning and catching up I would have to do to get to their level. Then it hit me one day - with the help of the amazing turnkey program I am using to build my current business - that I cannot continue to sit around thinking I will never make it in this industry. Of course I wouldn't with an attitude like that. I realized that in order to be an online success, I must take consistent action, be committed to my success, and stay positive. One of the biggest challenges for network marketers is to find and keep good prospects to build their downlines, who in turn will help market and distribute their products and services. Here's what you have to do:

If you've heard this all before, that's okay! Sometimes the best way to ingrain something into your minds and into who you are is to hear it many times over, and then to actually do it! Building a prospect base is all about building a relationship with your potential customers, and it's all about attitude - your attitude. It's about your attitude about yourself, your industry, your company, and your business. You are the master of this prospecting game, but first you have to become a master of yourself!

Being a master of yourself means taking responsibility for your own successes and failures, and focusing on what is giving you, or will give you positive results. You have to realize that there are ups and downs in this industry for everyone, and you will experience some difficult times. How you handle those difficult times can make all the difference. Despite the obstacles you will surely come across, you have to maintain consistency, focus, give your time, and stay committed to your success. One of the best ways to avoid failure is to find a mentor above you who is at a place where you eventually want to be. Find someone who is successful, and learn from that mentor, and do what that mentor does. If you hang around positive people, you will become more positive yourself.

In order to gather prospects for your network marketing business, you have to talk to people, enjoy talking to people, and do it on a daily basis. The more people you talk to, the more opportunities you will have to build your downline, so you need to get yourself out in front of people, both online and offline. You have to give yourself and your business all the exposure you can possibly manage. The thing to remember though is that once you've signed someone up in your program and they become a part of your downline, you cannot stop there! Building a downline is more than just signing a new recruit. Now you become the mentor, and you must teach and demonstrate to them how they can do what you are doing. This will help you build that relationship with your team that is so crucial to having a successful team. Remember that network marketing is not all about you, it's about being on a winning team and working with others.

Prospecting and working on a team such as this can be a scary experience for many people. That's why it's so important to maintain your self-esteem, and to be a confident leader. One thing that can improve your self-confidence is finding out all you can about your industry, your company, and your business. Know the ups and downs and the ins and outs so that you can explain it to your prospects, and have an answer for them when they ask questions. You have to know how your prospects can benefit from your products and services. You must believe in those products and services, believe in your company, believe in yourself, and believe in your business. The more enthusiastic you are about your business, the more people will be drawn to you and your business. You will know a good prospect when you see one because that prospect will possess the same positive attitude, enthusiasm, drive, confidence, and commitment to building their own downlines. Once you have a team of players like this, you will be on your way to network marketing success!

How a Strong Learning Curve can Translate into Sales

Let's face it. When you get into internet marketing, there is a ton of information you have to process and learn in order to be successful at what you do. It can be overwhelming at the best of times, and your motivation to continue learning has to come from somewhere. Maybe you love learning, and you should, but sometimes it feels like an arduous task to sift through all the information before us to find what is truly important to focus our attention on, and then to remember it all! The thing to remember is that learning can make a huge difference to our bottom line. When you commit yourself to continuous learning, you keep on top of the ever-changing internet marketing game, and staying on top of it can mean more sales for you in the end.

How can learning generate more sales for us? Particularly in the internet world, the only constant is change. If you don't keep yourself mentally fit by learning what's new out there, you will soon fall behind your competitors. The best ways I have found to keep in good learning condition are to visit discussion forums on business and internet marketing where you can find loads of useful tips, insider secrets, and techniques you can use to build your web pages or generate more traffic. I think I would be lost without this incredible resource and would not know half of what I know if it wasn't for the wealth of knowledge I have attained from the forums. They have helped keep me abreast of what the leaders and the average Joes in internet marketing are up to and what I should be doing to keep my business strong. Other ways of learning include reading books, e-books, taking e-courses online, going to a class, reading web pages, reading newsletters and ezines, attending seminars, or watching and listening to audio and video feeds. Learning is a selling strategy, and practicing what you learn every day can literally skyrocket your sales.

When we learn something new we are investing in ourselves, in our careers, and in our future. If we make the investment on a regular basis, we can turn ourselves into sales professionals. When you think about learning in this way, you can equate learning to dollars in your pocket. One way that I have stayed motivated to continue learning something new every day is that I know if I don't, I won't be able to come up with the original articles I have written. If you're up on your internet marketing training, you will know that writing articles is one of the best ways to generate one-way back links pointing to your site, and to generate traffic to your home page and blog. The more links, traffic, and quality content that you have on your site, the better your chances are for making sale after sale. When you learn new things, you not only become an expert, but you now have the ability to teach others what you have learned. A good salesperson will teach their customers how they can benefit from your products and services. The more confident you are at this, the more trust your customers will have for you. Since being in business is all about your relationship with your customers and potential customers, constant learning and teaching can turn you into a sales success story.

Learning is a lot of work, but when you learn to work smarter, not harder, you will find yourself ahead of the pack. You can determine what is important to learn by asking yourself if what you are learning right now is going to help you make a sale, and focus your time and energy on learning those things. Is what you are learning going to help turn a prospect into a customer? Is it going to increase your sales volume and profits? By choosing to focus on what will help you rather than focusing on insignificant tasks, you will be making an effective use of your time, and will learn all the right things to boost your sales.

As you can see, if you find a way of learning that works for you, take positive action to invest in yourself every day, find out what motivates you to be a continuous learner, become a teacher to help build your relationships with customers, and use your time and what you learn wisely, you will become a sales professional in no time flat!

Optimizing Your Site Using Keywords

You have created a brand new, hot looking website that without a doubt will be placed ahead of your competitors in the search engines. Surely with all the work, time, and effort you expended creating your site, it will be up there in the ranks! Then you find out that you don't even have a page rank, and you can't find your site by doing a search. One of the reasons may be that you have not optimized your site using keywords. You wonder why and how this could be when you thought you used the best keywords possible, but what you thought was best were actually the most competitive keywords. In this case, no matter how great your site, you would never get ahead of your competitors.

One way to get ahead is by doing your keyword research with a keyword research tool that tells you a term's popularity. This is a step that simply cannot be missed when trying to optimize your site. When searching for keywords, you do not want to use highly competitive terms. What I mean by this is that you don't want the word to come up with several million hits, even if this initially sounds like it would be a good term to use. On my own website, "home business" brings up 4,100,000,000 hits, so I would not want use this term to try and drive traffic to my site! I want to start with the less popular terms until I have a good page rank, and then I can think about using the more competitive terms later on. Using our keyword tool, we would choose a less popular term, and then do a Google search to find out just how competitive that term is.

A little trick you can use to beat the competition is to notice what sites come up in your Google search for your particular, less popular keyword. If the site's URL contains a sub-page, such as "homebusiness.com/makemoneytips.htm", and that page ranks well in Google, then you can get ahead of that site by using the same keyword, only in your domain, "yourdomain.com", not on another page of your site as in the above example, "/makemoneytips.htm". You also want to check that top-ranking site's page rank using the Google page rank toolbar. If the site achieved a top ranking in the search engines, but only has a page rank of 3 out of 10, then you know it will be fairly easy to get the same page rank, or better.

Next, you want to look at that top-ranking site's HTML code by clicking View/Source in your browser. Even if you don't know much about HTML, it pays to learn a little bit, and it is not as hard as it looks. If you compare an actual web page to the source code for that page, you will start to see patterns that make sense to you. Start by studying your own source code, and then the source code of other sites will look familiar to you. The things to watch out for when looking at other people's source code is to notice whether or not they use H1, header tags. Some sites do not, and if your top-ranking site does not use a header tag, then you can one-up them by using a header tag on your site containing the right keywords, and make sure the keywords appear at both the start and end of your copy. Also notice if the site uses a title tag with the keywords within the title tag. If they do use title tags, they will be ranked higher in the search engines for that keyword. If they don't use title tags, then you should use title tags to get ahead. If the other site has bolded, italicized, or underlined keywords, they will rank higher. If not, you could get ahead by doing that on your site. You want to check to see if they use certain images on their site based on keywords. If they don't, you should be using images and call the file the name of the specific keyword you want to use.

It's a good idea to get into the habit of doing keyword research and creating a keyword file that you can add to on a regular basis. This file should consist of popular, but less searched keywords that can outrank your competitors. The bigger the list, the better off you are. This will help you get traffic to your site using keywords that your competitors have not thought of using yet. As troublesome as it may sound to do keyword research, and view the HTML code of your competitors, your site's position in the search engines will definitely improve quickly if you follow the steps above!
