When starting an online business, many people have a single motivation to make money, and make it quick. While this is an understandable goal, and the dream of many, we must divert our attention from "money" to "value" and "meaning". Maybe that sounds cliche, but it is unbelievable how often this one simple concept is ignored. How do we create value and meaning in our businesses? We build relationships. How do we build relationships online? We build a subscriber list. So now the first thing online business owners do is they buy subscribers - many of whom don't really care about what you have to offer anyway. They are not targeted subscribers and they are the ones who may end up unsubscribing. Instead of thinking about the money, the most crucial thing that every online business owner must do is focus on building, growing, and maintaining their newsletter lists.

Now the next thing online business owners will do, and I am guilty of it too, is they will promote and advertise their website, their website's products and services, and their affiliate links in forums, in ezine ads, in offline advertising, in Google Adwords, in their author by-lines, and in traffic exchanges to try and make a sale from their links. This may very well work for generating sales, but the crucial action we need to take is not promoting and advertising our links, but to promote and advertise our newsletter opt-in page so that we can build our subscriber lists. Sure, sales can come in from strangers around the net, but the most important sales that you can ever make are the ones you get from your list. Why? Because you know that you have built some sort of trust with your subscribers. They have loyally followed you through your auto-responder series, mixed with messages of your own that have made them say, "Hey, now this is someone I don't mind doing business with!" Once you have made one sale with someone on your list, you can build and maintain that relationship and offer more of value to them. Getting traffic to your site is not about getting people to click on your links and buy something. Getting traffic to your site is about giving people the opportunity to join your list.

Unfortunately, opportunity is not enough in this case. Most of us know that we need to have an ezine on our site that visitors can subscribe to. We've all got one and we think we're ready now to bring in the masses. Wrong again! We have to give people a reason to subscribe to our list. For most people it's not enough to just sign up to get yet another person's mass of emails that will litter their in-boxes and which may never be read. In fact, it's no bonus to just sign up for someone's newsletter at all! Besides that, our readers want something more. Yes, your newsletter will be packed with free tips and techniques and secret weapons for becoming the next internet marketing millionaire. But our subscribers also need to be enticed with a free special report, a mini e-course, and a special mystery bonus that they will get only after they have opted in. This has to be offered to them fast too, as most visitors won't stay on your page for more than a minute! A pop-up can be an effective way of capturing names and email addresses quickly.

Once you've got subscribers, you want to build that relationship with them. There are a few ways to engage your subscribers so that you don't lose them. If you let your auto-responder do all the work, you may be in trouble. Subscribers know that online business owners are busy people and they have an automatic email system. While this may provide valuable information, it is no substitute for a real relationship. By simply adding your own personal messages and exposing a bit of your own personality, you will start capturing your subscribers' attention, and building trust, honesty, and integrity with them. You also want to inspire your readers to take some kind of action. By "taking action" I do not mean buying your products and services! I mean involve them in the process. Subscribers can answer a survey you put out about their needs, they can ask questions that you put on a FAQ list, they can participate by telling you what they want to see on your site, they can offer testimonials, and they can become involved in joint ventures.

When you promote your opt-in list, give a compelling reason to join, and build a relationship of trust by adding a personal touch and involving your customers in the process, they will begin to see that you have something of value to offer them. It is then that you are on your way to creating a loyal customer base, and eventually you will bring in the money that motivated you in the first place.

I've listened to the audio Comp Plan twice now and have a better understanding of the Success University Compensation Plan that I feel is important to share with you all.

I originally thought that for anyone to receive commissions at all, you had to upgrade to Premium. This doesn't really make sense, so I made a boo-boo there and my apologies! You can continue past the 14 days, paying your $49.95/month as a Basic member for as long as you want. What this means for ME, your direct sponsor, is that I will only receive MONTHLY commissions from your payments of $49.95. I will NOT receive the WEEKLY Fast-Start Bonuses, because Weekly Fast Start Bonuses are paid out from the $149.95 Premium memberships. IF, however, you, as a Basic member, enroll your own students, who then upgrade to Premium, you can still receive Weekly Fast Start Bonses from their $149.95 memberships, AND Monthly commissions from their $49.95/month. I would then also receive Weekly Fast Start Bonuses from your Premium enrollees. On top of that, I would get a 10% matching bonus on each personally enrolled Premium member that you have enrolled who gets a Fast Start Bonus, infinite levels deep.

Now this is NOT ALL ABOUT ME. This is ALL ABOUT YOU, and US as a TEAM. If you want to see what this means for YOU, then replace "I" in the paragraph above with yourself because you are the next to be in my position! This means that YOU do not have to upgrade to Premium. You can enroll your own Premium students and receive weekly and monthly commissions infinite levels deep, and matching bonuses on top of that. However, you - as a Basic member - will only get HALF of what any Premium student enrolled is receiving. If you do the math on your potential earnings from Success University, you will see how much you could be missing out on by not upgrading to Premium. I also will repeat that it will be hard to get those enrolled under YOU to upgrade to Premium if their sponsor is only Basic. Besides that, you are not getting nothing for paying your one-time $149.95 Premium membership. You get a package of training materials and CDs in the mail worth over $350.00. Your membership will more than pay for itself in time, not to mention the Success University education you will receive from the top-notch leaders in the industry. Finally, your first month's tuition of $49.95 will be waived if you upgrade to Premium before your 14-days is finished, whereas if you wait until after the 14-days to upgrade, you will be charged your first month's tuition on top of the $149.95.

Still, you do NOT HAVE to become a Premium member after the 14 days, you can continue as a Basic member. Basic members will only receive weekly Fast Start commissions when those under them have upgraded to Premium, but Basic members WILL receive monthly commissions on those they enroll under them, as long as they are either active Basic or Premium members (past the 14 days), as long as they continue to pay their $49.95/month - they will only get monthly not weekly unless those they enroll are Premium members.

As an even greater bonus, you will get at 10% matching bonus on every personally enrolled student under you who earns a weekly Fast Start Bonus. This means the person under you is enrolled at the Premium level, that Premium person receives a Fast Start Bonus, and now you get 10% of every Fast Start Bonus they make, infinite levels deep.

There are 2 ways to qualify for Fast Start Bonuses: Have 1 active (Basic or Premium) student in your right and 1 in your left. This is a requirement each month. If you get more than 1 in the left and 1 in the right each month, it will carry over to the next month, until you have 12 active students, and then you don't have to worry about maintaining the 1 in left, 1 in right after that. The other Fast Start Bonus you get is from the Dual Binary Plan where for each cycle of 6 people you enroll at the Premium level, you receive a weekly Fast Start Bonus, on TOP of the weekly Fast Start bonuses described above! You also get paid monthly in the Dual Binary plan.

There is a difference between QUALIFYING and RECEIVING commissions. To qualify you need 1 active in right and 1 active in left. To receive you need 4 in the strong, 2 in the weak, OR 3 in the strong, 3 in the weak, OR 2 in the strong, 4 in the weak. Each cycle of 6 will generate weekly and monthly commissions infinite levels deep. For example, if you have 500 members in your strong leg (4 personally enrolled), and only 2 personally enrolled in your weak leg, you would qualify for 1 cycle of 6 because you have at least 4 in your strong leg, and 2 in your weak leg. The commissions will start small, and get larger and larger and LARGER until you build up your weak leg. Being a Premium member will allow you to earn DOUBLE commissions, and FAST START BONUSES practically right away, as soon as you get that 1 cycle of 6. If I have 500 in my strong leg, I could be paid weekly and monthly for 125 cycles of 4 in my strong leg, 2 in my weak leg! HUGE EARNING POTENTIAL HERE FOLKS!!!!!!

When will you see your first check?

If you are placed in someone's weak leg and only have 1 personally enrolled person in your right and 1 person in your left, you QUALIFY for commissions. To RECEIVE commissions, you will need 4 people in your right, 2 in your left, or 4 in your left, 2 in your right, or 3 in your right, 3 in your left = 1 cycle of 6. It will continue to grow from there as you get new people into your weak leg.

If you are enrolled under someone in Stone Evans' co-op, i.e. ME, and you are in their strong leg, you will not have to worry about building your strong leg, as this will fill in quickly and nicely from all the Stone spillover, spillover from me, and spillover from everyone between me and Stone and beyond. You are a lucky duck if you are enrolled as an active student in my strong leg!

If you are enrolled under someone and placed in their weak leg, you will have to build both legs, with the help of me - your direct sponsor - and my direct sponsors above me - Stone Evans and Kent Jacobsen with the help of Mike Ward and others. You also can enroll under me with the Personal Power Team, a group of 50+ individuals, myself included, who will be a support network and team, giving you the tools and knowledge you will need to build your team under you. If you are enrolled under me, or anyone in Stone's co-op, you will indirectly benefit from the free massive advertising campaign that Stone Evans has launched from end of April/06 running through to the end of Feb./07 where our links will be rotated in all of his advertising efforts. He will help ME via his massive advertising campaign and co-op enroll active students who will go into your strong leg. It will come in slower than if you were in my strong leg, but these students WILL COME! It is everyone's challenge and commitment to building their weakest leg, and we are all here to help one another succeed.

You write a blog religiously every day or so. You provide
informative, interesting content for your loyal readers. You've
even got a couple of affiliate links in there, too. But is this
enough to get great search engine results for your efforts?

Probably not. Sure, you'll get listed with the search engines
easily. But without a top twenty listing at one of the majors
(Google, Yahoo! or MSN), you won't have traffic, literally,
banging down your door.

In order to get better search engine results you need to make
sure you are using the right keywords (and know how to use
them), have links pointed your way and regularly check the
results of your hard work. Here's how.

Choosing Appropriate Keywords

Do you know what search terms your visitors are using to find
you? Most blogging sites give you the option of checking up to
see just how people found you. If you don't have this feature
available, hop over to http://www.statcounter.com/ and install
their free service on your blog immediately.

Next, research those keywords. Visit Overture's free site
(http://inventory.overture.com/) and type in the most generic
of the terms people are using to find your blog. You'll get a
list of related keywords used at a major search engine in the
past month. Although it is an oversimplification of the search
engine optimization process, try and stick to the more unusual
but natural-sounding keywords as your top picks.

Putting Keywords in the Right Places

Once you've picked a keyword that applies directly to your
blog, make sure to incorporate it into the following portions
of one complete blog posting:

# The title;
# The first sentence;
# Each header (if you have any);
# Once a paragraph; and
# The last sentence.

If you have any links to outside sources, use the same keyword
as your link text where possible. Also, for each blog posting,
try and pick a different (but related) keyword to use. Feel
free to reuse keywords every 30-45 postings.

Submitting to Directories

Your third step is to take these keyword optimized blog
postings and post them to the article and blog directories.
Most of the search engines determine the relevancy of your blog
by how many outside websites link directly to you; therefore,
posting your blog entries (with a link back to your site in
your resource blurb) is an easy and straightforward way of
doing so.

Checking Your Progress

It may take a couple of days to see any results, so try and
wait a week before you take a look at StatCounter. Have your
hits increased at all? Are there any new search engine
referrals?

To track your blog's ascent up the search engine rankings for
any given keyword, try Digital Point's free Keyword Tracker
Tool (http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/). It is an
excellent way of ensuring your blog positioning efforts are
paying off.

With all blog postings, content is key. Without useful,
interesting information that cannot be found elsewhere, your
visitors won't come back for more. Incorporate these simple
search engine optimization techniques into your blogging
practice however, and you'll both keep the visitors you already
have and dramatically increase your readership through high
ranking search engine placement in no time.

Happy Anniversary to HonestMoneyMaking.com! Today I celebrate 3 months in business and have decided to provide a monthly progress report.

I joined the Plugin Profit Site 3 months ago and work at my business at least 4-5 hours per day, 7 days per week. There's still a lot of work to be done, but the past month has been exciting and positive for me!

As many of you already know, Success University has been an exciting addition to the internet world, and my site is no exception! I joined Stone Evans' co-op opportunity before the deadline April 21/06 and am looking forward to the year ahead where co-op participant links will be circulating via Stone's advertising efforts, as well as our own! I am currently learning the Success University compensation plan, spillover system, am taking courses, and on my way to getting new Success University students enrolled and active in the program!

I struggle with Google PR and am trying to find ways to boost my page rank. Perhaps it is keywords I need to focus on, as I feel I have been doing all the right things by submitting articles and blogs regularly, and getting linked to higher PR sites.
I also struggle with my subscriber list, and am working on ways to grow my list. Time is another struggle, and I am rearranging my schedule to try and fit everything in while keeping fit and healthy.

Upcoming changes to my site include a better explanation of what the Plugin Profit Site program is, and more about Success University and The Personal Power Team (a group of 50+ people, myself included, who have joined together to help Success University students and each other make it big!)

Getting indexed in Google and making our websites available to the world via the top search engine remains one of the biggest challenges for webmasters, myself included! It takes more than just submitting your URL to Google's directory, so I have taken it upon myself to find out a few things about how Google works, what services it has available, and how to get in, and stay in!

To get your site listed in Google, you will have to submit your URL to their directory, but it will take quite a while for them to get to your site and have it listed and reviewed for a page rank. In the meantime, there a few things you can do that will help get your site noticed. Google has something called "Google Base" which allows you to describe your products or services on your site that Google will make searchable. Because you are using words directly related to your site, this feature can bring you targeted visitors, and may be included in the Google search index and other places around Google. "Google Local" is another feature of Google that will allow you to enter the same type of description of your products and services on your site, but to an even more targeted audience - those people searching for specific products and services in a specific local area. If you are looking for ways to advertise without spending a fortune, this is one way to do it!

As we all know, blogging is becoming one of the most effective ways to advertise online. Google offers something called "Google Blog Search" where you can list and post your blogs for additional traffic to your site, and you can post multiple blogs, a specific blog, or even an entire blog. Since content is what attracts the search engines, both by blogging and submitting articles, Google also has a feature called "Google News" where you can submit articles, along with your picture which will get featured by the top search engine. All it takes is visiting the American Chronicle website, submitting an article, signing up to be a contributor, and submitting your articles that will be syndicated on Google News to the millions of readers every day! You can even submit a press release to Google News via PRLeap, and if you really want to get fancy, you can create and index a video or infomercial for your site that is indexed by Google with "Google Video". You may want to take advantage of this feature as audio and video feeds are becoming a more and more popular and effective means of reaching customers online.

This all sounds great, and you can be going along thinking everything is fine and dandy, but then suddenly you discover that your site has been banned by Google and you aren't sure why. One thing that can get you banned from Google, meaning your site cannot be found when searched, is trying to put hidden keywords on your page to get a higher ranking - words that your visitors cannot see, but that the search engines can see. People will cram these words onto their sites in various ways both on the page itself or in the meta tags, or repeat keywords they think will give them a higher page rank but will only get your site banned.

Something else that is bad for your Google Page Rank is linking to a link farm, or a directory of links from everywhere with no real categorization to it, or linking to another banned website. Sometimes you will be linked to a site with good PR, without realizing that that site has actually got hidden or repeat keywords that later get that site blacklisted. Unfortunately you have no way of knowing this is happening to you and thereby decreasing your own page rank unless you check your link partners on occasion to make sure that the sites you are linking to have not been blacklisted by Google. You do want to exchange links and get one-way links pointing back to your site from sites with a higher PR than your own and which are not banned sites.

As you can see, there are many ways to use Google that people are not aware of, if they just visit the Google site and find out what features it has that they can use to their benefit and for free. As long as you stick to the rules in putting your site together, and link to high PR sites, you should be on your way!

It's time I say a few words about Success University.
