Making the Sale

Owning an online or offline business means you have a product or service that you want to sell. If selling was easy, we'd all be rich! The thing about salespeople is that many of them are selling something they know little about, or something they don't even like or care about, just to make a quick buck. When the quick buck doesn't come, they might take desperate measures to make a sale, which also might turn out to be the wrong approach entirely. What they are not realizing is that their focus is on the product or service they are selling, when the focus should really be on themselves, and on their customers.

To sell a product or service, you must first sell yourself. This means letting the customer know that you care about them, that you can be trusted, that you love what you do, and that you believe in yourself, in the customer, and what you are selling them. You cannot expect to influence someone when you have little credibility to begin with. The salesman is in a tough position, as most people consider them to be pushy and manipulative, and will often disregard them right away. But the customer is in a difficult position too, not knowing who to trust, and sometimes taken for a sucker whenever they do fall for a sales pitch! In order to sell yourself then, you must discover what your customers' needs are, work with them, build a relationship with them, and ultimately do what is right for them, not what is going to make the sale for you. What will make the sale in the end is your genuine desire, willingness, and commitment to serve and help your customers.

A salesperson with a bad attitude to begin with is going to be powerless. If you think you won't make the sale for this or that reason, and feel that it's out of your control, then you won't make the sale. There is no room for doubt. You are going to make that sale! If you don't know how, then there are many ways to learn and grow into the salesperson you thought you could never be! A bad attitude can also be how you feel when you are not making sales. If you work extra hard to build your business but see no results, you may find yourself down in the dumps and losing energy over it.

Desperate measures are often considered and taken when sales are down or non-existent in the first place, and when you are feeling down in the dumps. Desperate measures can include pressuring someone to buy something, creating a sense of urgency if they don't buy, or belittling someone who won't buy. Unfortunately this can lead to negative results that could end up backfiring on you and ruining your reputation. What you have to keep in mind is customers' needs and whether or not your product or service is going to satisfy their needs. If not, then have the integrity and courage to walk away, even if you lose a sale, because the sale wasn't right for that person to begin with! Acting with integrity will keep you consistent in words, beliefs, and actions and desperate measures will not be a part of your plan.

Instead of taking desperate measures, you can gain a lot by educating your customers. Give them some quality information that they will need or want to have. Define the thing that is missing for them, and then offer a solution. Tell them what they can do to fix it with your product or service, and what your product or service has done for you!

Duplication and Change in Internet Marketing

You have just launched a new internet business and are trying to get it off the ground with an amazing advertising campaign, except that it turns out to be not so successful. Most people want a return on their investment, but when they put money into something big, they expect immediate results, only to discover that they have nothing but an empty wallet and deflated confidence in themselves and in the process. What we must remember is that when we fail, which will happen at times without a doubt, we cannot stop at the first thing we try. In fact, we should not stop at all until we find something that works for us, while realizing that this will take an investment of time and money - the investment being different for each person. Once we find what works, we must duplicate that process and that effort until we see the results we are striving for. Also remember that when something is not producing the kind of results you want, then it may be time to make a change!

Making changes is something I have been trying to do over the past couple of weeks and will continue to do in the month ahead. I got to a point where I felt comfortable with my daily to-do list, which is a good feeling, and yet, being too comfortable with where I'm at is not always the best way to move forward. While encouraging and congratulating other internet marketers on their successes, I felt that it was time for me to do something different so that I could experience the same success.

There are some very positive actions I have taken in my business to create the success I have had thus far. One of the best ways I have created success for myself is through writing original articles such as this one and posting them to my blog every day or every other day. This is fast becoming one of the top ways to market your online business and my efforts here have been consistent. It has paid off by generating one-way links for me around the internet and having my articles used in other website ezines. I have also been successful with forum posting, and using traffic exchanges to promote my sites. I plan to duplicate and expand these processes over time by generating more one-way links via article and blog submissions, posting in more forums, and using more traffic exchanges.

I don't feel it is enough to stop there. While these methods are highly rated internet marketing methods, and it does take time to build momentum and status on the net, there is still much work to be done. Over the past week or two, I have started making some important changes that have already produced positive results for me, which, incidentally, makes me feel that my workload is about to increase 10-fold, but maybe so will my paycheck!

The following is a list of changes I have made, which you can think about too in your internet marketing efforts. I have: Added links to my main website page promoting a new program; Changed some of the text on my website; Joined three new traffic exchanges; Made a few posts on two new discussion forums; Posted free classified ads; Added a progress report to my blog; Decided to blog every other day instead of every day; Added one featured author per week, rather than every other day; Added more article submission sites to my list; Changed my author by-line; Commented on other people's blogs; Joined a blog rating service; Upgraded to Premium for my link service; Started reading more ebooks; Surfed for more traffic credits; Joined a new opt-in list service to get more subscribers; Joined a new team; And sent more personal emails, follow-ups, and broadcasts to my subscriber list.

As you can see, my work is cut out for me, and this is only the beginning! The point I want to make is that when things are going all wrong and you are ready to quit, it's not a time to get discouraged, it's a time to take action! Replicate and expand what is creating positive results for you, spend less time on what is not working, and take the initiative to try new things and make changes when you know you're not where you want to be.

Google Page Rank : What You Need to Know

Now that you've got your new website up and running, it's time to start building your Google Page Rank, or "PR". Page Rank is the value that Google gives your site, measured by how many quality links are pointing back to your site, or how popular your site is. The more links you have pointing back to your site, namely quality links from sites with a higher PR, the higher your site will be ranked in Google's search engine. The rank is on a scale of 0-10 - ten being the highest rank of course! It takes time to get a PR higher than zero when first starting out. This is partly because once you submit your URL to Google and other search engines, it may take weeks or even months before it is indexed. It may also be partly due to the fact that you just need to build good content for your site, and have your links on other people's websites all over the web. Even if you have a PR of 1-5, you are doing well, even though it may not sound like it. The challenge is for webmasters to increase their PR as much and as quickly as possible, but how?

First of all, there are some tools you can use to check your PR, namely the Google Page Rank Toolbar, which can be downloaded for free from the Google site, and is installed onto your browser. This allows you to check your own site's PR, as well as those of other sites you visit, which will give you a good clue as to which sites you should be linking to. Linking to sites with a higher PR will increase your site's PR. It's a good idea to do a Google search for keywords related to your site's content, and choose sites to link to whose PR you know in advance. You can send an email to that webmaster asking to exchange links. Not all of them will accept, but the few that do could increase your PR very quickly just by linking to your site!

Next, it's important to do some serious keyword research using a keyword search tool, one of the most popular being Overture's keyword search tool. With this tool, or other similar tools, you would type in search terms, such as "make money online". Since this is a very broad search term, it is going to be highly competitive and will generate a high number of results for number of times that term has been searched. When optimizing your site, you want to avoid these highly competitive terms and use keywords that generate fewer results, by coming up with a keyword that is searched less, but still popular.

There are a few tricks to getting ranked higher with regards to keywords, such as changing some of your source code keywords. For example, you can change the title tag of your site to match the optimized keywords you want to use. You can also look at the source code of other people's sites by clicking View/Source in your browser while visiting their site to see how optimized their site is and which tags and images they use or don't use. It is helpful to highlight, bold, or italicize your website keywords to get a higher rank, especially if your competition is not doing that. If you check what your competition is doing, and do what the higher ranked sites are doing, you may be able to outrank them!

Why Knowing Your Niche Can Save Your Business

While searching for that perfect online business opportunity, one thing many people tend to neglect - and not on purpose - is finding their niche market and how they can benefit the most from it. Most people come into the online business world without even knowing what a niche is. In fact, when I started my own business, I wasn't aware of the concept, and to this day, still need to narrow down my scope into the perfect niche that could explode my profits. When your goal is to make money online - a huge, competitive market - it's easy to jump into something big without realizing the difficulty of having to put your advertising efforts ahead of the competition. So what is a niche, and how can we ensure that we are not trapping ourselves in a market that we will have trouble surviving in?

A niche market is an easily identified, easily reached group of people who have similar interests, values, or needs for a product or service that is in high demand, but that has low competition. When you look for a business niche, you are looking for that high demand product or service for that very specific audience. Making money online is a very high demand product/service, but when you do some research to find out how massive that market is and how broad that topic really is, you realize that you could be a very tiny fish in a huge ocean of sharks. A better way to approach this market would be to narrow it down into something very specific, such as, "How newbies to the internet marketing world can make money online using ezine solo ads". The more specific and targeted your product or service, the more success you will achieve in reaching that market.

How do you go about finding the perfect niche for you? First, you want to consider what you are truly passionate about in life because if you do what you love to do, you will be able to build and maintain your business, as it is something you enjoy. If you don't enjoy teaching people how to make money online through internet marketing methods, then it probably isn't the right niche for you, and you won't get very far with it.

You also want to choose a niche that you have some good knowledge about. The less you know about your product or service, the harder it will be to build a solid and useful website, full of quality content that will grab targeted customers. Take a good look at what skills you have, what your hobbies and interests are, and promote those things you know the most about. If you still don't feel you have anything worthwhile to promote based on your skills and knowledge, then choose something that really interests you, that you want to learn about, and go do your research on that topic so that when you do promote something, you will be proud to promote it. Continually learning about that new product or service will eventually make you an expert in that market.

Once you've found your niche, you want to do further research and make sure there is a good market for it. Find out what products and services are in high demand, but which don't have many competitors that you won't be able to surpass in your marketing efforts. "Making money online" is an example of a high demand, highly competitive market. Again, you want to narrow this down into something in high demand with less competition, such as "How newbies can make money online with Google Adwords". Be sure to do a keyword search for your topic using keyword tools such as Overture that tell you the demand for your topic. Also find out what your competition is doing so that you know what to do to keep up.

Your research may also include finding out from your existing customers what exactly it is they want. You can do this by sending a broadcast email to them and simply asking them what is missing, what they would like to see, what their needs and desires are, and what they hope to get from you. By creating a website full of quality content, articles, and information on your niche, your customers will be begging for more.
