The big question is always, "How much money and time is it going to take to run an effective and successful business that will earn a good profit?" Many people will even shy away from internet marketing and business in general knowing that it will probably cost a fortune to advertise. Others will think that because their business is online, rather than the traditional offline, brick-and-mortar business, it won't cost as much to advertise. Here's the second installment of two explaining what it takes to advertise an internet business successfully: Blogging is another technique that is becoming an extremely effective and almost necessary method of advertising your online business. By signing up for a free account on a blog server, you can post your comments, thoughts, diary, journal, or anything you want with your links at the end pointing back to your site. You can submit your blog to blog directories, comment on other people's blogs leaving your link at the end, and the search engines will visit a site whose blog is updated regularly! This takes very little time and no money! Similar to this method is writing articles, again, another advertising technique that is almost a must these days since search engines are looking for quality content on websites. Keyword rich articles will be spidered by the search engines, increasing your page rank and number of visitors. Article writing can be completely free and your own creation, or you can pay to have a service like Just Articles write one for you for $12 for example. You can then submit your article to article directories for free if you do it manually, or use an article submitter software such as Article Marketer, which allows you to distribute articles to a smaller audience for free, or a wider audience for $39.95/quarter. The cost is higher the wider the distribution and the longer the service. Still, it is a very cheap and highly effective way of advertising these days, and only takes about 30 minutes or so to write an article and submit them. Finally, you want to start a linking campaign, which means you put your links on other people's websites and they possibly put theirs on your site. This is called a reciprocal link exchange, which can increase your page rank if you have links on the net pointing back to your site, or have links on your site from sites that have a higher page rank. It is best to have one-way links that point back to your site and make sure that the links on your site relate to your site's content. It can be free to submit your URL to millions of link directories, or you can pay for software, such as Link Directory Submitter ($90), which will automate the process and save you time, whilst providing you with quality one-way and reciprocal links to boost your page rank! With all the competing web sites out there the importance of this becomes a top priorty so that you can get free traffic and thus make money online. I started my Internet home business venture some 3 months ago and I didn't have a clue as to how I would get visitors. It quickly became apparent that in order to get visitors for free that I would have to take certain steps. The following is what I did to get my site indexed and page ranked in 3 months, maybe my timing was right for the quarterly page rank by google but I did have to do some work to get there. 1. First off in order to get indexed quickly I suggest you put in a tiny classified ad at CraigsList.com, the site is a PR 8 and having a link to your site will get the search engines crawling all over yours. Make sure to only put one ad in and not to spam them because they will close your account. Also make sure to keep an eye on it, sometimes the administration cancels it or it expires. 2. Next I read an e-book call SEO Made Easy by Brad Callen(You can get a FREE copy on my web site listed below). Brad has some wonderful ideas and methods to get to the top of the search engines. I then implemented his ideas and methods. 3. Getting one way links back to your web site is key in getting Page Ranked. a) Article submission will get you one way links and having lots of them will get your site PRed. So how do you get a link to your site? Well in each article that is submitted you are allowed to put an "About the Author Box", this is where you put your link to your site. Now some of you might find this very time consumming. Well so did I. What I did is got my articles ghost written from JustArticles.com and had them submitted to over 24,000+ publishers at Isnare.com, for about $70.00 US your can get 5 450-600 word ghost written articles from JustArticles.com and 5 distribution credits from Isnare.com which will distribute those 5 articles to the 24,000+ publishers. Now if you don't want to spend the $70.00 on the articles and distribution you CAN do it for FREE. You can of course write your own articles and get article submission software from my website for FREE. But if you do have the money I suggest you do it this way because it is very time consumming. Its very important that you don't submit more than one per week because getting too many links all at once will make the search engines unhappy. Continue to submit one per week for 3 months. b) Submitting your web site to one way link directories is the other method I used. Again this is time consuming so I bought a piece of software that does this for me. You still have to do it by hand but all the directories are already preloaded in the software. Go here for a copy of the software I'm using: http://www.directorysubmitter.com/It costs about $97.00 for the software but I'm sure that you will think its money well spent after you see results. If you don't have the money to do this then I guess you'll have to do it the hard way and find the directories and submit by hand. c) Joining a well known forum is the last thing I did to get one way links to my site. You see most forums have what's called a sig file. A sig file is a perminent signature to every post you make at the forum. I put in a link to my web site and that's it. The only thing left to do is post topics or reply to ones already made. Again make sure you don't spam the forum you join, this will only get your account closed. Make sure you have a relevant topic or reply and you will have no problems. By implementing these steps I achieved a Page Rank of 5 in 3 months, keep in mind that the search engines are always changing and finding new ways to rank pages. One thing I think will always be important is the amount of one way links back to your web site. I hope these methods will help you achieve your goals and make you money online, I know they have helped my Internet home business immensely. Tell your friends, your family, your relatives, your colleagues, and everyone you can comfortably tell about your business. When you tell one person, think of it as not only telling just one person, since each person will likely tell everyone they know in turn, and the news will spread. If one person is not interested, then maybe someone they know will be interested. Word of mouth can be a very powerful thing, and takes no extra money or time at all! Next - and a frequently neglected form of advertising in the internet world - is to advertise your business offline. This includes advertising in the classifed business sections of local newspapers, in magazines, with flyers, posters, and business cards. The internet is filled with prospects looking for this and that product or service online, so they see hundreds of ads all mixed together. It can be more effective to have an offline ad that stands out from the rest and grabs people's attention. It costs very little in both money and time to advertise offline. A newspaper ad may be $30/month, and you can use your word processor to create flyers and business cards. A good way to advertise online is by using ezine solo ads. This means paying $30-$200+ to have your advertisement posted by itself in other people's newsletters. Some newsletters have a huge subscriber list, so your ad can potentially reach thousands of people in one shot. A solo ad is more effective because it is the only advertisement that these subscribers will see in a day, so it captures their attention and they may click through to your website products and services. The advantage of ezine solo ads, while the cost may be higher, is that it is very quick and easy, so it can be a huge time-saver! You may want to try Google Adwords, which can get thousands of targeted visitors to your site in no time when they search for the keywords in your ads that you bid on, and click on your ads which lead to your website products and/or services. It can be expensive, especially if you don't know what you're doing, so you want to make sure you read up on it closely, such as reading Perry Marshall's Definitive Guide to Google Adwords ($49), so that you come up with the high demand, low cost keywords you need to run successful ads without losing your money. We are Opportunity Junkies. I have experienced this first-hand, as well as witnessed otherwise perfectly sane people becoming compulsively obsessed with the 'kid in a candy store' mentality. Born to Shop! It's like the excitement becomes the addiction! Every time you speak to them, it goes like this: 'Hi, how are you doing today'? 'Oh, just GREAT, I just joined XYZ.com', ABC.com, and QRS.net, wow, I'm stoked.' 'Oh'. I have been rehabilitated and now tease a few of my friends about this and even subtly scold them, of course, followed by giggles or written LOL's, so they don't think I have over-stepped the line on what a friend may say. I am so happy I have learned to articulate exactly how this problem manifests, as well as the repercussions, so that I can attempt to do an intervention, before they are hopelessly lost like I was. (If you wanted to kill me in my weakened state, you would just have needed to start explaining one of those 3x9 forced matrices here, and if you were particularly cruel, you would include a graphic representation). I know how it started with me. Somehow I got the phrase 'diversify' in my head, and that was what I thought I was doing. The rationalization was I would find out which one works. If I tried enough things, at least one had to work. I will have one of these, one of the blue ones, and a couple of the red ones. Now I know these are called Niches. Wow, only two months in this business and I was a real empire builder. Domains! Yes I shall be master of all my domains! Cyber Monopoly! Woo-Hoo! Multiple streams of income - there's an alluring, addictive phrase. There are many other tempting nouns and verbs that are a part of this wonderful world of Internet Marketing! For instance, 'Massive action'! Yes! Make my day! Well, I did need more than 'work at home in your pajamas' - somehow that was not very exciting to me. How about 'blaster' - now here is where we are getting into dangerous territory for sure, and this one can easily translate to 'spammer'. You can see where I am going with this one, maybe the sandbox, maybe even jail! Beware of anything with 'blaster' in the name. What are the dangers of this harmless flirtation? Aside from the hundreds of dollars I wasted on memberships in all these dissociated programs, and tools that I never had time to follow through on (use), there are the reams of paper I wasted printing out every screen, every detail about each opportunity; followed by the eye-strain and a condition well-known as 'information overload'. Diagnosis: LOSS OF FOCUS! One must return to a logical state somehow. I was so overwhelmed after my first 6 months, that I just had to 'step back'. It took a long time of just going around thinking, 'what do I do next', 'where do I start'. I am not exaggerating here. It took me a couple months of doing almost NOTHING, but I did know I was committed to this dream of having my own business on the Internet, and that is the only reason I didn't just throw everything away and get another dead-end day job! My return to sanity: I found a program that had everything all put together for me - a very affordable, free website, including legitimate, proven affiliate programs, training in marketing strategy, tools and resources, sales copy, and a support forum. The latter has especially been a Godsend, in that working at home alone navigating a brave new world, it sure is good to know I am not alone. The cost was unbelievably low. No bait and switch, either, it is still the same after 2 years. This would give me the cohesive foundation to build on, one brick at a time. I had to promise myself, if I spent another dime or joined one more program, I would have to quit a corresponding number of things in order to generate the money it would cost. So I weeded out all the expensive things that hadn't worked, that had lousy instructions, lousy support, or that were too technical, etc. Recovery: As I became more and more 'recovered', I still held on to a few pet IM tools that would surely help in my new venture. Slowly I have let them go too, but it was hard. I had withdrawal symptoms = 'you have already spent this money over the past several months, are you just going to chuck it all'? Then the saying 'throwing good money after bad' came to me, and I said 'cut your losses already; WHY keep doing something that hasn't worked'? I feel another saying coming on, 'Definition of a crazy person: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results'. Half-Way House: This is not to say that once firmly established I could not begin to add on more Niches to my portfolio of websites. (I had secretly hidden 5 more domain names in a half-way house) and do have plans for my network of companies that I have begun to build on slowly. However, my MAIN FOCUS is the one core program which will be the prototype for developing my other businesses in the future. Are you pushed to your limit and ready to call it quits? Ready to run away from home because you have too much on your plate? Are all of life's responsibilities too much for you to handle in addition to a home business? Would you give anything to know how to organize and manage your time better? Believe it or not, there are a few things you can do to take control of your precious time and energy, and still make the most out of your business efforts! The first thing we must do is define what is most important to us in life and create a vision for what we wish to achieve, both in life and in business. Set your priorities based on this. Know what your personal values, goals, dreams, and principles are that guide you. We cannot start to organize our time and our days until we know what gives our life and business value and meaning. We are many people in our lives - We are mothers, brothers, lovers, teachers, children, coaches, mentors, leaders, business-men, doctors, friends. Our many roles in life make it difficult to manage our time and be who we need to be to all people. We have to remember that we can't be everything to everyone at all times though we sometimes try. If we remind ourselves of what each of our roles are and how they contribute to our purpose and priorities in life, and what gives us meaning, then we may give ourselves a clearer picture of what we need to do and when. Also, if we see these roles as not being totally separate from each other, but intertwined with our life purpose, then we won't feel as overwhelmed by all the roles we have to play. Next we need to set goals for ourselves, and as with each of these steps, they should be written down where they can be seen, where they can remind us of what we are trying to accomplish, and so that we can change them as things change in our lives. Goals should be specific and measurable so that we can monitor our progress. Our goals will relate to our roles, our priorities, and what gives our lives meaning. We then need to decide in advance how we are going to make decisions that we are faced with during our days and weeks. If we don't have a plan of action when faced with unexpected situations where we have to decide how to spend our time, we often make hasty or rash decisions at the spur of the moment, and sometimes these will end up giving us more stress than we had in the first place. If we are always trying to make time for everything that comes up, we will end up with way more on our plates than we can possibly handle, which leads to feeling overwhelmed. We need to stay focused on what we are trying to achieve, and decide how we are going to decide things. Sometimes this means being more flexible in our planning, and knowing what our priorities are, but making them happen when we can fit them into our schedules rather than having a fixed schedule and trying to fit more and more in. When we keep our priorities and life purpose in mind, we must also act with integrity - do what we say we are going to do, with the confidence to also be flexible in our planning. In the end we can evaluate how far we have come, and determine whether or not we reached our goals, and if not, why not. Reviewing our progress enables us to rework the plan that isn't working into something more effective and productive. Copyright © Craig Friesen If you do any browsing of online home business sites or Internet marketing, you will surely have seen this message is some shape or form: "quit your job and become wealthy working from home...let us show you how!" In fact, most of the people who will read this article may have promoted a product or home business opportunity with a similar sales line or a variation. What many do not understand is that wealth can be defined in different ways. A dictionary definition of wealth is: 1. riches; large amounts of money or worldly possessions; 2. an abundance of anything. Most Internet marketing focuses more heavily on the first then the 2nd. I think that this can be a mistake - you are potentially missing an entire segment of your market! Your typical advertisement promoting an online money-making opportunity focuses mostly on the first definition - a large bank account and luxury items to your heart's content. Home business opportunities, on the other hand, tend to focus more on the 2nd definition. Here are several examples of how wealth is used as "an abundance of everything" in online marketing: - quit your job / fire your boss (wealth = more independence and control) - work at home / work from home (wealth = more time for family and self, with flexibility of schedule) - earn extra income / need help paying the bills? (wealth = more discretionary income). The implications of this observation for us marketers are that you can promote the same opportunity in different ways and by doing so expand your market. Let's say you have a home business opportunity that involves selling a health product. The 2 most obvious ways to market the opportunity is to interest persons who use the product as well as those people just looking for some kind of home business. Your promotional material will be different for the 2 types of recruits - one that promotes the opportunity primarily, and the other that says, "you use the product, why not earn some money selling it to your friends?" You could also promote the opportunity as a means to luxury - the first definition of wealth. Design your promotional material to highlight the possibilities of residual income. The point is, no matter what the opportunity, you can widen your prospective market by designing variations to your promotional material. Splash pages are a great way to accomplish this. Optimize the keywords and graphics to focus on one segment of your marketing instead of trying to attract them all. You might also want to prepare matching landing pages so that your prospect doesn't think they ended up in the wrong place. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then wealth is in the eyes of the prospective home business recruit.
